As Tropical Storm Helene pours rain on Burke County, many roads have been closed from flooding and landslides.
Here are the roads closed or partially closed:Â
- N.C. 126 at Linville River near Parks Drive: Flooded and barricaded
- Gingercake Road and Joe Johnson Road: Mudslide
- Bost Road at Spainhour Road: Flooded and barricaded
- Antioch Road closed from flooding at Lower Creek
- Government Drive: Partially flooded
- Seitz Road at John Berry Road: Flooded
- Johns River Loop: Flooded
- Henderson Mill Road: Flooded in the curve near Gragg Farm
- Coal Chute Road: Hunting Creek has covered the bridge
- N.C. 126 at Brookstone Drive: Flooded with 3-4 feet of standing water
- Ceramic Tile Drive: Flooded
- West Union Street between Silver Creek Road and Walton Road: Tree down, road impassable

East Parker Road was flooded below Juniper Street but has reopened, Burke County said in a release. The county said the road likely will flood again as heavier rain comes to the area. Bethel Park and the Catawba River Greenway are underwater and closed.
All main roads were open and passable at 6 a.m., the release said.Â
Swift water rescue teams already have responded to two calls for service overnight, according to a release from Burke County Emergency Services. There have been 47 tree-down calls and 18 flooding calls.
Burke and the surrounding counties are in a flash flood emergency, which means life-threatening, catastrophic flooding is ongoing across the county.
Voluntary evacuations have been encouraged in Burke County in flood-prone areas near Linville River, Lake James, Johns River, Catawba River, Lake Rhodhiss, Henry Fork River, campgrounds, RV parks, recreational sites and any other flood-prone areas near streams, creeks, ponds, rivers and lakes.
Lake James was at 104.7 feet by 7 a.m. Friday. Lake Rhodhiss was at 101.8 feet. Duke Energy said it expects levels for both lakes to get as high as 110 feet.

Duke Energy’s outage map showed more than 2,500 customers without power in the Burke County area around 7:30 a.m.
Rutherford Electric was showing 20,729 outages at 7:30 a.m. The company serves more than 76,000 customers.
