A Hickory man died in a motorcycle crash Monday night in Rhodhiss.
A 2008 Jeep Compass was driving south in the Fox Ridge subdivision off Rhodhiss Road. The Jeep went left into the path of a northbound 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle shortly before 7:20 p.m. on Monday, according to a release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
There are no lines painted on the road, Sgt. A.K. Johnson said.
The driver of the motorcycle, Stanley Leroy Paige, 65, of Hickory, was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center where he died, the release said. He was not wearing a helmet.
Troopers believe Paige was travelling at an excessive speed, said Trooper C.M. Casey with the Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Jeep, 30-year-old Robert Allen Hull, of Connelly Springs, was not injured, the release said.

The road was closed for about three hours during the investigation. Charges are possible once the investigation is completed and troopers consult with the Burke County District Attorney’s Office.
