After years of preparing, Burke County broke ground on the county鈥檚 new EMS headquarters and its new animal shelter on Kirksey Drive on Friday afternoon.
The two new buildings will cost a combined total of $13.5 million and will be built by Beam Construction Company Inc. Burke County Manager Brian Epley told the crowd gathered for the event that no local tax money is being spent on the facilities. He has said the money for the buildings is coming from federal and state grants.
During the groundbreaking, Burke County Animal Services Foundation President Kay Draughn and Vice President Alan Wood presented a $50,000 check to Commissioner Chairman Jeff Brittain for the new shelter.
The EMS headquarters will be built on 4.25 acres at 102 Drexel Road in AV短视频. The new animal shelter is being built at property adjacent to the county鈥檚 911 center on Kirksey Drive.
